On Monday, May 12, 2025, the DeKalb Initiative for Children and Families (DICF) successfully held its first meet and greet networking event, hosted by community partner and South DeKalb YMCA Director, Mark Henderson. The event took place in one of the YMCA’s spacious and inviting event rooms, where guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and refreshments in a warm, collaborative atmosphere.

The gathering brought together a diverse and passionate group of attendees, including representatives from nonprofit organizations, community organizers, elected officials, social workers, and educators — all united in their dedication to supporting families throughout DeKalb County with vital resources and compassionate care.

During the welcome remarks, DICF Board Chair Sandy G. Johnson and GA Family Connection Regional District Manager Marcell Johnson introduced the Initiative’s core goals: to improve graduation rates and to foster trauma-informed communities across the county. They also underscored DICF’s ongoing commitment to supporting partners through funding, resources, and collaboration.

Attendees were encouraged to join or recommend members for DICF’s Strategy Teams — working groups focused on advancing the Initiative’s mission through targeted actions and partnerships.
